Lewa Education Program Receives $10,000 for feeding program

The M. Night Shyamalan Foundation has given a grant in the amount of $10,000 to help feed the 400+ plus children attending Munanda Primary School in Kenya.

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy works as a catalyst for wildlife conservation through the protection and management of species and their habitats, the support of community conservation initiatives, and the education of neighboring communities in the value of wildlife. Recognizing that humans and animals must both coexist and thrive if wildlife is to have a sustainable future, Lewa's Education and Community Development Programming play a vital role in the success and future of the entire region for humans and animals alike.

The Lewa Education Program supports community primary and secondary schools by providing feeding programs; extra teachers and/or salaries for teachers; supplies such as a desks, tables and chairs; and through infrastructural support. They also provide bursaries and scholarship incentives for children wanting to attend boarding schools and universities. Because providing children with a hot breakfast and lunch often increases school attendence, especially for children living in the poorest households, and because learning is strained without adequate nourishment, the M. Night Shyamalan Foundation opted to support the Lewa Education Program through their feeding program.
